Ну когда же вы научитесь?

Большинство ляпов не являются таковыми в силу законов жанра — и у аниме и у экшена есть свои условности. Но:

• Русские десантники (подчинённые Балалайки) салютуют без головного убора, да ещё на американский манер — прикладывая ладонь к брови.
• В манге и аниме десантники названы «Visotoniki» — непростительный ляп.
• Балалайка целится, закрывая один глаз. Абсолютно недопустимое действие, за такое в СА били по голове даже простых стрелков, а уж снайпер-офицер себе такого позволить не мог в принципе.
• Интересно наблюдать за метаморфозой Реви. На первых страницах манги она китаянка со стильным каре, а буквально через пару страниц — уже типичная белая с хвостом вместо причёски. Зато глаза пошире и грудь побольше, есть чем потрясти, кроме пистолетов.
• В «Кровавой тропе Роберты» американские спецназовцы вооружены M4A1 c прицелами Eotech 553, которые появятся только в начале двухтысячных

Background[]

Revy was born in New York City, NY. Few details are known about Revy’s past as what is gathered is from brief flashbacks from both the manga and the anime. Revy was born as Rebecca Lee, a Chinese-American, in the poverty-stricken Chinatown district of New York City and raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. One day, after fleeing from one of her father’s rampages, she was arrested, beaten, and raped by a corrupt police officer. Upon being returned home following this ordeal, Revy shot and killed her father after he callously asked her for another drink, using a pillow as a make-shift silencer.

In Vol. 9 (chapter 72), Revy says she quit school partway through middle school.

There were apparently similar incidents between Revy and the police, particularly at the 27th Precinct. Eventually, the assaults resulted in Revy losing her faith in God, leading her to believe that the police abused her because to them she was «just another little ghetto rat with no power and no God.» Revy has alluded to doing time in prison (in Buffalo Hill where it’s mentioned the warden knew her) and it is hinted she is an escaped felon, but it is unknown how she ended up in Roanapur.

Ability[]

Occupation

Revy is the driving force behind Lagoon’s military might, being the fighter of the team who can single-handedly defeat an entire platoon by herself. Her role in Lagoon is at the vanguard. She’s the protector when her team faces danger and the striker when the team needs to eliminate an enemy. She also plays special roles like infiltrator, rescuer, and courier. Ultimately, she’s the reason why Lagoon is so deadly. She alone makes Lagoon a force to be reckoned with.

Combat

Revy is one of the deadliest fighters in the series and the main gunfighter in the The Lagoon Company, whose skill with firearms and ability to dodge bullets is almost superhuman and unparalleled. She is capable of high movement like jumping and maneuvering herself around crowds. Roberta and Ginji Matsuzaki are a few characters who can hold their ground, or at least be a match against her, in combat. In moments when she has «Whitman fever», she pretty much kills anything in sight.

Revy also appears to have some hand-to-hand combat skills, being able to hold her own in a fistfight against the formidable Roberta (although this was more of a comedic fight rather than a serious one). She has also taken down other hostiles with flying kicks in addition to her twin pistols.

Weapons

Revy’s modified Beretta 92F

Revy’s weapons of choice are a pair of modified Beretta 92F’s; which are made out of stainless steel and had their barrels extended from 4.9″ to 5.9″ each (the 5.9″ is the combat MOD barrel) and are threaded to be able to accept muzzle breaks, suppressors, compensators, etc.. They are engraved with «9mm Sword Cutlass» on both sides, as well as the Jolly Roger of the infamous pirate Calico Jack (which is also inlaid into the ivory grips), and a manufacture inscription in Thai. Her 92F’s were also used for melee combat at some point in her fight against Ginji. Due to her ambidextrous marksmanship skills, she is nicknamed «Two Hands» by the denizens of Roanapur.

She is also skillful with a wide variety of weapons, ranging from being able to single-handedly fire an M79 grenade launcher while standing on the deck of a moving boat, casually yet effectively firing a PM-63 submachine gun, to wielding a Gepard Anti Materiel Rifle against a helicopter gunship. Revy also appears to be very knowledgeable when it comes to weaponry as she was seen in a rare state of excitement when Dutch handed her the APS underwater rifle.

Intellect

Revy is by far the least intelligent member of the Lagoon Company. She tends to let her judgment be run by her emotions and base her actions upon her feelings, a flaw that has gotten her into trouble numerous times. Even so, she’s still intellectual to some degree, being able to tell a losing battle from a winning battle and being able to gather and piece information together to formulate battle strategies.

In a lot of ways, it would be better to see Revy as uneducated as opposed to unintelligent. She has the ability to make connections based on evidence and information, as well as develop both combat and social strategies, but given her poor upbringing she likely never finished her education (formally or otherwise), and has put extra development on her violent streak.

Сюжет

History[]

Roberta admitted that she did murder children, women or anyone in name of revolution during her F.A.R.C years. Disillusioned by the fact that she was merely a tool for the drug cartels in cahoots with F.A.R.C, she opted out and joined the Lovelace clan as a maid through her father, who was a close friend of Diego Lovelace. Despite being asked by Garcia Lovelace not to pick up gun-fighting anymore, later events in the manga depict her watching helplessly as a bomb was set off, killing many including Diego. Garcia’s question of why was his father was a victim makes her go into battle again, seeking revenge. Roberta also shows signs of a growing anger; she is shown taking mouthfuls of stimulant drugs and experiencing haunting hallucinations of her past victims, most notably a Japanese man. It is revealed that she tore his family picture before ruthlessly shooting him in the forehead.

She once again stalks the city of Roanapur in search of the one responsible for assassinating her master. Unfortunately, it turns out to be the U.S. Special Forces, whose intentions were to assassinate a general, who had to sacrifice Diego Lovelace to complete their mission. Roberta’s quest for vengeance has put many of Roanapur’s residents, including Hotel Moscow, the Triad, and the Colombian Cartel, on high alert as it could mean the end for all of them if their new enemy is the United States. Most of the residents blame the Lagoon Company for attracting her back to Roanapur despite the fact the group was in the dark about the situation and «brushed it off as if it were an Elvis sighting.» Further into her quest, she begins to lose sight of her goal, almost returning to her former persona. She begins to lose her sanity and has trouble identifying friend and foe, thus almost harming Garcia in the process. The F.A.R.C commander even comments that she is no longer the hound they once knew, but a stray wolf. Her oath as the «Bloodhound of Florencia» is, «For I vow upon the name of Santa Maria, to strike down upon any and all unrighteousness,» according to Vol. 1. This version is seen in Vol. 6: «I vow in the name of Santa Maria. An iron hammer to all the unrighteous.»

In Chapter 73, Roberta is last seen with an American woman, presumably Eda. The woman is able to subdue Roberta and gives her the location where Gray Fox is, something only an American security agent could know. Roberta finally catches up with Gray Fox and kills the soldiers from the three groups sent out, except for Caxton who is thought to be killed by Garcia. However, it was later revealed that he faked his own death using fake bullets in order to stop her path of revenge. In the manga, Ray is killed by Caxton when he tries to kill Roberta after she pulls herself together.

In added pages of Chapter 76 Vol. 9, when Roberta was shot by Garcia with fake bullets, she accidentally shot Garcia, grazing his liver. Garcia smiles and kisses her on the lips, which causes her to blush. Roberta, Fabiola and Garcia came out of the situation alive and well. There is also a scene where Fabiola greets the murdered Japanese engineer’s family, who are visiting the Lovelace mansion, and a nervous Roberta and Garcia are standing side by side.

In the anime OVAs, it is shown that Roberta, Fabiola and Garcia came out of the situation alive and well in the end. However, Roberta has lost her right leg, left arm, her right eye, and index and middle finger of the right hand, the latter of which she severed herself and tossed to the ground after they took a bullet from an American sniper. She is alongside Garcia when he is meeting up with Shane, Fabiola and the Japanese engineer’s family.

Character Bio[]

Although Roberta’s domestic skills such as cleaning and cooking were poor, she developed a close friendship with Garcia Lovelace, the young son of the Lovelace family.

She was once known as Rosarita Cisneros who is a former F.A.R.C guerrilla trained as an assassin in Cuba and an internationally wanted criminal that Balalaika refers her as a «hardcore terrorist» to the point that Hotel Moscow had to deploy all their commandos, as well as Balalaika getting involved in the situation personally should things get out of hand. Revy refers to her as «That Fucking Glasses Bitch». She earned the moniker «Bloodhound of Florencia» for her relentless drive to achieve her objectives. Her tormented past and the smell of blood, gunpowder and muck like that of a sewer rat emanating from her was something Revy understood fully well.

Trivia[]

• In Ch. 44 Pg. 11 and Episode 25, it is revealed that Roberta has a moderate curvaceous figure and large breasts (bigger than Revy’s breasts) when she is seen naked in the shower.
• In the ending to the «Roberta’s Blood Trail» OVA, there are differences on how Roberta survived the fight:
  • In both versions, she survives, but there are a few differences:
    • In the manga, she survived without sustaining any major injury (Vol. 9 Chapter 76).
    • In the anime, she suffers significant wounds throughout the final battle as she ultimately lost her left arm, right leg, two fingers, her right eye and she was also confined to a wheelchair, but this seems to be temporary when she recovered as she is seen rising from the chair at the end of the OVA.
• In the First Popularity Poll, Roberta ranked 5th place with 374 votes
• Revy refers to Roberta as «Fucking Four Eyes» and «That Fucking Glasses Bitch».
• Roberta earned the moniker «Bloodhound of Florencia» for her relentless drive to achieve her objectives.

Abilities[]

Occupation

Within the Lagoon Company, Rock is usually responsible for account management, diplomacy, negotiation, translation, interpretation, and running occasional errands. Having worked in the resource department of Asahi Industries, Rock is skilled in geology and chemistry. He is also a skilled linguist due to frequent traveling from his previous job, able to speak various languages such as Japanese (his native language), English, Spanish, Romanian, Cantonese and Russian. He also has a surprisingly high tolerance for alcohol, owing to the heavy drinking lifestyle of a ladder climbing salaryman.

Combat

Rock has no experience or interest in any sort of combat weaponry and his main «weapon» are words. But, it is safe to say that he has a fair amount of physical strength as he was able to overpower and push away Revy when she punched him after they had an intense argument. He also seems to possess at least an above average reaction time as he is constantly able to avoid being hurt by crossfire and is able to get out of tricky situations involving armed enemies efficiently. At one point he was even able to redirect a gun being fired at him from almost point-blank range so that he did not take any serious damage from the bullet. Even though he has some potential, he consistently refuses to actively engage in combat with anyone, regardless of the situation. Because of his inexperience with weaponry and his pacifistic nature he is clearly one of the weaker members of Black Lagoon. Dutch has stated earlier that he believes Rock should never wield a gun because his bullets would ricochet back to them.

Intellect

Rock is one of the smartest and most resourceful people in Roanapur. Having perfected the job of a businessman, Rock is excellent at gathering information and knows how to fully utilize them to his favor. His attention to details and ability to piece information together has earned him praise from an intellectual individual like Sister Yolanda and Mister Chang himself. Because of his unconventional way of thinking, Rock is able to formulate solutions and think of scenarios that no one can ever think of. Even when driven to a corner, Rock is capable of thinking under pressure to calculate and come up with the best course of actions for most circumstances. Despite being an excellent critical thinker and problem solver, Rock’s deadliest intellect lies with his gift to pick the most effective but riskiest solution in existence. Earning him the name «The Gambler» by numerous individuals.

Luck

Rock is one of the luckiest characters in the series as he managed to survive every single thing he experienced from being taken hostage to being shot at. He has survived the wrath of Revy, Balalaika and Roberta who are the three strongest and most violent people in Roanapur, all without using a weapon other than his wits.

Background[]

He is a dropout from the University of Florida where he studied computer engineering until he got into trouble with the FBI and the mafia, and would have ended up dead if Revy had not saved him. Since then, he has worked in the Lagoon Company for two years before Rock came along. In the second season, he met Greenback Jane, and, after impressing her with his computer abilities, began an online relationship with her. Jane returned to Roanapur following the team’s completion of the Lovelace Incident and Benny meets up with her in the Wired Red Wild Card saga.

Although there have been no actual hints of Benny’s age, judging from his appearance, Benny could be in his mid 20s to early 30s

— это о близняшках-вампирах. Они играют с эмоциями, их невинность — лишь приём для обмана свох жертв и собственного выживания.

Что интересно, Року непосредственно ничего не посвящено. Возможно, этими словами:

Реви обращается к Року и через него — к лицемерному миру.

Plot[]

The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as Lagoon Company, that smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the early to mid 1990s. Their base of operations is located in the fictional harbor city of Roanapur in southeast Thailand (somewhere in the Amphoe Mueang Trat district, likely on the mainland north/northeast of the Ko Chang island or on the island itself). They transport goods in the 80-foot (24 m) Elco-type PT boat Black Lagoon. Lagoon Company does business with various clients, but has a particularly friendly relationship with the Russian crime syndicate Hotel Moscow. The team takes on a variety of missions—which may involve violent firefights, hand-to-hand combat, and nautical battles—in various Southeast Asian locations, even going as far as Phu Quoc island of Vietnam and when not doing much, the members of the Lagoon Company spend much of their down time at The Yellow Flag, a bar in Roanapur which is often destroyed in firefights.

In an interview with Otaku USA, Rei Hiroe stated that Black Lagoon was inspired by James Ellroy, John Woo, Quentin Tarantino and Stephen King, as well as hearing about actual piracy cases in the East China Sea]] in the 1990s.

Black Lagoon includes a considerable amount of graphic violence, often involving violent gun fights and spectacular physical feats in battle. Many of the characters who are most skilled with weapons (mainly guns) are women, thereby bearing a similarity with «girls-with-guns» genre with the six strongest women in the series adhering to some type of stereotype (dragon lady, referring to Revy, maids, referring to Roberta and Fabiola, nuns, referring to Eda, etc.). Some of the scenes and dialogue are within the realm of dark comedy, as humorous moments occur or are mentioned during and after many violent battles.

The character concept, gritty atmosphere and violence blending with black comedy depicted in Black Lagoon pays a homage to the films by Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers. The Yellow Flag bar and Mexican standoff scenes in the series pays a tribute to spaghetti westerns; Tarantino is known for making references to spaghetti westerns in his films. It also make references to Tarantino’s favorite films, such as The Wild Bunch poster (titled The Wild Punch) seen in Revy’s bedroom in episode 11 of the anime and Revy mentioning My Bloody Valentine in episode 24.

The «Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise» arc showed that most of the characters throughout the series actually speak English, with the Japanese simply being done for the audience. While the English voice acting in the anime is heavy in Japanese pronunciation, nearly all occurrences of English lines in the manga are accurate. However, the instances of Cyrillic script tend to be less so.

The twins were born in Romania and grew up in a state-run orphanage in Romania. After the death of Nicolae Ceaușescu and the downfall of his communist regime, a large number of orphans, including the twins, fell into the hands of the Romanian mob.

Under the control of mob groups that used them as sex slaves, «Hänsel» and «Gretel» are forced to participate in pedophiliac snuff films, in which they are either to murder other children or be raped. Such horrific incidents and witnessing continual beatings of other children turned them into sadistic, fierce, cunning, and deranged killers. They have a firm belief that their life spans are extended by killing others. This belief probably derives from the fact that they had to kill other children to avoid beatings in their orphanage years.

Unknown to most people, «Hänsel» and «Gretel» are actually two personalities alternately adopted by the two children, both of whom suffer from ‘dissociative identity disorder’, meaning they swap their identities as «Hänsel» and «Gretel» with each other from time to time (these were their stage names in the films as confirmed by Balalaika). This appears to be indicated through the swapping of clothes and a wig. There are slight implications that they are incestuous, possibly due to the abuse they suffered. The twins have a tendency to express this most intensely during charged situations such as murders or narrow escapes. Among other things, they have been shown kissing, reciting romantic quotes, and stripping together. The twins consist of one being male and the other being female as seen in the omake of Lagoon.

In combat, «Hänsel» wields a sharp, wicked-looking battle ax while «Gretel» uses a M-1918 Browning Automatic Rifle that appears to be taller than ‘she’ is. Both also carry additional sidearms. While they were mentally deranged, Hänsel and Gretel were also cunning, having used one of the local orphans as a decoy to distract the bounty hunters and using money to distract Eda. They were also not above using their innocent appearance to deceive their enemies.

Gretel’s Weapon of Choice.

As revenge for killing Balalaika’s men, Balalaika used herself to lure Hänsel into one of Roanapur’s parks, where he is shot from a distance by one of her snipers in the leg and the arm. Unsatisfied, Balalaika decides to not torture him but to watch him bleed to death, and witness him crying in his final moments, much to Boris’ displeasure and the discomfort of several of her other men. Meanwhile, Gretel manages to escape and eventually boards the Black Lagoon of her own volition. On the ship, she and Rock bond, and his kindness prompts her to open up and reveal her and Hansel’s horrific backstory, as well as their twisted belief system and that Gretel is Hansel wearing a wig. Rock, completely distraught by hearing this, desperately hugs Gretel/Hansel, who seems genuinely shocked at experiencing the honest affection of another human being. As Rock hugs her and tries to change her view of the world, Gretel momentarily looks affected by his earnestness, and becomes saddened that she upset him. Attempting to cheer him up, she shows him her genitals. Now completely horrified, Rock leaves the cabin, and Revy, thinking the girl was simply messing with Rock, punches her in the face. This infuriates Gretel and brings her fierce and sadistic front back up, and she taunts Revy about how they are the same. However, she remains affected by Rock’s kindness and takes a genuine liking to him. The two arrange to meet up and have a picnic at some point in the future.

However, just as Gretel disembarks she is gunned down by Elroy, the get away man Dutch contacted, who was bribed by Hotel Moscow. While Rock is initially horrified at her death, he expresses relief that Gretel and her brother are now at peace. After she had died Dutch suggested that they bring something to cover her up however, Rock quickly refused, saying that it would be better if she had died looking up at the sky.

Максимум, что можно встретить, глядя другие сериалы — гость из Америки. Если же действие происходит за пределами Японии, то аниме обычно снято в жанре исторической драмы, фантастики или фэнтези. «Black Lagoon» (наряду с «Michiko & Hatchin» и «Yugo Negotiator») является исключением из этого правила — действие происходит:

Триады[]

Триады — вероятно самая крупная и могущественная мафиозная группировка Роанапура. Глава синдиката — Мистер Чан, подчиняющийся напрямую боссам Триад в Гонконге. В 1993 году триады были вовлечены в криминальную войну с новоприбывшей русской мафией — «Отелем Москва», которая кончилась дуэлью их главарей. Полное имя Чан Вайсан (張維新 Chan Waisan). Член и представитель триады «Сунь Е Он» в Роанапуре. В самой группировке является экспертом по административным и финансовым вопросам («пак це син»). Единственный мужчина, к которому Реви относится с уважением. Хитер и проницателен. Спокойно относится к поражениям и потерям среди своих людей. Помимо руководства триадами иногда сотрудничает с ЦРУ.

Мистер Чан, на первый взгляд больше напоминает преуспевающего адвоката из Гонконга или Нью-Йорка. Одетый в неизменный костюм, с легким пальто и белым шарфом. Спокойный, отрешенный от дел мира сего, с улыбкой рассказывающий о своих проблемах, как будто речь идет не о нем. Но за этой маской прячется жестокий и хитрый стратег, и великолепный боец. Работал в полиции Гонкoнга.

В бою использует парные пистолеты Colt 1911, или Beretta, модель 76 или модель 89. О его высоких способностях говорит то, что он смог выжить в дуэли с Балалайкой в 1993 году, успешно отбиться от нападения Гензеля и Гретель, в котором погибла вся его охрана, и играючи разоружил Фабиолу Иглесиас.

Персонаж Мистера Чана базируется на героях Чоу Юньфата в фильмах Джона Ву.
